GMS PTA Welcomes all Volunteers!
With your help, we are able to make great events happen at GMS that support our kids, teachers and staff. With the help of our volunteers, we have wonderful PTA events like our Sixth Grade Social, Tiger Day, Teacher & Staff Appreciation Luncheons and a Holiday Cookie Exchange - among many other events. Volunteers have chaperoned, served food, decorated, cleaned, baked, cooked, donated and much more. Parents also have a chance to interact with their kids, fellow students and faculty. Tiger Day alone, our school-wide carnival event that directly benefits teachers, had more than 280 volunteer areas. We always have a variety of volunteer opportunities that can be weekly, monthly or just for a one-time event.
This page will list all of our ongoing needs and page links for volunteers. However, some of our larger events will also be listed separately with full details. Again, many thanks for your gift of volunteering. If you should have any questions, please contact GMS Volunteer Coordinator Leanne Simons
To volunteer at Gorzycki:
1. You don’t need to be a GMS PTA member to volunteer. However, parents must be registered with the school. For student and faculty safety, the school is a part of the Raptor System. To get registered, stop by the front office and the office staff will scan your Driver’s License or state-issued ID card. It is a free, quick process. Once you are signed in, you will be able to volunteer for many years at GMS.
2. Before volunteering, confirm you are registered with the office before any volunteer duties. Once registered, you will simply log in to the Raptor Computer on the front office counter. It will print your nametag with your photo.
Social Events (Coordinated by Holly Andrepont and Stephanie Rice):
Held annually in September, this event provides Gorzycki sixth-graders an opportunity to socialize with their classmates and friends while dancing in the glow with the DJ and enjoying pizza, drinks and treats. The 2014 event saw 337 sixth-graders who went through 94 pizzas, 500 cupcakes / cookies and countless sodas and water bottles. More details will be posted closer to the event.
Gorzycki’s student-exclusive school carnival will be held on a Friday in March 2015. Many more details will be posted here closer to the date.
Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities (throughout the school year):
-
Tiger Team (Coordinated by Alicia Barrientos)
This group, formerly Tiger Dads, but now both parents can join in the fun. Adults work a 30-minute spot weekly or monthly so students can go outside during their lunch. Parents also get a chance to mingle with students while monitoring behavior. This program is designed to provide students with positive role models, as well as a higher level of safety. More details and the opportunity to volunteer will be posted soon.
-
Teacher Workroom (Coordinated by Michele Mitchell)
This group of volunteers provides essential assistance for teachers and administrators – making copies, laminating, die-cutting and other administrative tasks. Training is required and provided. Volunteers can work two-hour shifts weekly, or more, if available. Six-to-10 volunteers are preferred. Volunteer details coming soon.
-
Popcorn Fridays (Coordinated by DeeDee Green and Christy Zimmerman)
Help pop and distribute popcorn and drinks to teachers and administrators as a special treat on designated Fridays throughout the school year. Volunteer details coming soon.
