In order to help our school operate as efficiently as possible, we have created a variety of avenues for parents to sign up for a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.

How do I chaperone a field trip?

If you plan on chaperoning a field trip please go to www.austinpartners.org to register as a volunteer.

All volunteers who have unsupervised access with children, who are not their own child or grandchild need a background check. All volunteers - whether they are parents or community members - should register on the APIE website unless they are having a background check processed by another organization.

Exception: Parents or grandparents who are either working only in their grand/child's classroom, or volunteers who will not be left with students outside of supervision by an Austin ISD employee do not need a background check.

Everyone else needs a background check. The phrase from AISD Legal Services is "if they have the opportunity to be alone with a child for one second, they should have a background check."

It is better to be safe than sorry. If a volunteer has not been background checked and an issue arises concerning a student's emotional or physical well-being, the liability will rest on the school and not on APIE or Austin ISD.
