PTA NEWSLETTER

Format and maintain a newsletter form of communication from the PTA board to the GMS general PTA, parents and faculty. Members: 1 – 3 recommended.

PROMOS & PRINTING

Chair: OPEN

Coordinate and facilitate promotional materials for the PTA and PTA events – such as specific PTA t-shirts, promotional flyers or letter head, etc. Members: 1 to 2 recommended

STUDENT / SCHOOL DIRECTORY

Coordinator: Angie Schuckle and Amy Zahorik

Data entry, proof-reading, editing data in order to ready material for printer to create a school directory. Members: 1 – 3 recommended.

PTA MEMBERSHIP

Chair: Barb Hoisington

Assist VP of Membership in getting information about PTA, PTA benefits, and information as to how dues collected will be spent, in order to encourage parents to become members of the PTA. Sending updates, thank you notes, membership cards, etc as needed. Members: 1 – 3 recommended.

PTA PARTNERS IN EDUCATION (PIE)

Chairs: Jodi Crawford and Cindy David

Work with the businesses and community to share information about GMS and to gather support for students via mentors, material, instructors and possibly monetary support. Members: 6 – 10 recommended. Austin Partners in Education website: www.austinpartners.org

PTA REFLECTIONS ART PROGRAM

Coordinator: Position Open

Reflections is an art program in which students may submit original works in Literature, Musical Composition, Photography and Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, or Film and Video. Volunteers will: organize and distribute information regarding PTA “Reflections” program rules and guidelines, collect submissions from students, recruit judges to look over submissions, notify students whose submissions are chosen by the judges to receive a ribbon and advance to the Council level, keep students informed of progress and location submissions. Times per year: Sept. – Nov. Members: 4 - 6 recommended.

PTA SOCIALS

Chairs: Connie Perrine Cathy Jones

Organizing, planning, scheduling and facilitating special events for students. Specific events can include: the dances for – 6th grade social, Valentines and End of Year. Other events include – Tiger Day and 8th grade graduation ceremony and celebration. Members: 1 to 4 recommended.

PTA HOSPITALITY / COMMITTEE

Chair: Andrea O'Daniel

Organizing, planning, scheduling, decorating, gathering food items and facilitating special events for teachers and staff. Some events include Teacher Appreciation breakfasts or luncheons, etc. Members: 6 - 10 recommended.

TIGER MART - SCHOOL STORE

Chair: Anna Baker

The Tiger Mart provides a small store, within the school, that is stocked with items that students, faculty – even parents might want to purchase that pertain to school supply needs, GMS Tiger spirit items and such. Volunteers help with organizing, restocking, selling and maintaining the store. Members: 2 - 4 recommended.

PTA GENERAL PROGRAMS

Chairs: Julie Farr and Susan McBride

Coordinating a series of ongoing evening programs, open to parents and students, covering a wide range of issues of interest to the Gorzycki community. Topics include; Gorzycki 101 - administrators, counselors, teachers and coaches will discuss topics of interest including; new math & reading programs, dress code, safety issues, spring sports, schedule changes, locker issues, etc. Parents will have chance to submit questions to the panel at the end of the program, Bowie Night – an introduction to “all things Bowie,” Financial Planning for Young Teens, Drinking and Driving, and Gorzycki Club Fair. Members: 2 - 4 recommended.

PTA ONGOING NEEDS

TEACHERS WORKROOM

Coordinator: Angela Schuckle

Helping your teachers! Making copies, laminating, die cutting and other administrative tasks for teachers. Training is required and will be provided. Time requirement: 2 hours per week (or more if available). Work with a friend! Volunteers: 6 -10 recommended.

TIGER DADS

Chair: Tracy Teston

Tiger Dads will support the staff assigned to monitor the student’s behavior during lunchtime. Dads get a chance to mingle with the students while monitoring behavior. This program is designed to provide students with positive role models as well as a higher level of safety. Dads need to be available at least once a month for one or more lunch periods. Volunteers: 60 - 70 recommended.

SCHOOL OFFICE HELP

Coordinator: Angela Schuckle or 658-2741 (PTA, Office-Volunteer Coordinator)

This is now supported by the PTA. We will help to gather volunteers to work in the office. The coordinator recruits and keeps a schedule of office volunteers. Number of Volunteers needed: varies

SCHOOL LIBRARY HELP

Coordinator: Angela Schuckle Looking for Co-Coordinator

Duties include, but are not limited to, working with librarian on various tasks in the library including shelving books, helping students locate books, keeping the library in generally good order.

LANDSCAPING

Duties include, but are not limited to, working with a group of volunteers on various tasks around the school including pulling weeds, creating garden areas with native plants, keeping the landscaping in general good order.

MISC VOLUNTEERS: AS NEEDED

Chair: Susie Blagdan

Volunteers will be needed for a variety of events throughout the year. As needs arise for specific events or areas that come up at a moment’s notice, these volunteers will be contacted. Volunteers: many recommended.

MISC: FOODS FOR EVENTS

Chair: Susie Blagdan

Volunteers will be asked to provide a variety of food related items for specific events. Most food items will be needed for teacher / staff related appreciations (see Hospitality) but some items may be needed for student’s dances or other school wide events. As needs arise, volunteers will be contacted. Volunteers: many recommended.
