From the Mighty 2011/2012 Tiger PTA
Our mission is to do things that will benefit all of the students at GMS - and perhaps have some fun programs which educate us along the way. While our goal is not to make money, we know realistically that we do need to do SOME fund raising in order to put on the programs, purchase the furniture and materials needed at a new school, as well as do things like continue to fund the library which is the "heart" of GMS.
Our first PTA leaders here at GMS started this journey before the school actually opened in 2009, with a couple of goals in mind; first of course, was to support the school while helping to create a good environment for the students; but the other was more personal. It was to create an inviting environment for all parents whose students will attend GMS. They believe in lots of fun, lots of help so that everyone has a good time while socializing and meeting new people. These last few years, the PTA consisted of more than a hundred parents when you count all the board members, committee chairs and committee members. That doesn't even TOUCH the hundreds more who came to volunteer at the socials, luncheons, Tiger Dads, school store, special activities, etc. Literally HUNDREDS. (I started an excel spreadsheet recently to get a "rough estimate" of how many hours volunteers have put in this past year...similar to the way Rudy's BBQ does when their employees participate in a community event. I am humbled to tell you that just off the top of my head on the events I knew about specifically, there have been more than 9,000 hours logged...and that's not even CLOSE to being accurate...it's WAY low. That is more than a YEARS worth of hours!!! Incredible.)
You've heard the saying "Many hands make light work". The branches of our GMS PTA have many many leaves. These leaves represent the people who help in so many ways. I've met some nice folks who tell me they never would have considered doing anything PTA before coming to GMS. Then they enjoyed themselves so much this past year that they brought their friends on board. The important thing is that they felt included, appreciated, welcomed.
"People might not remember what you did, or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel."
We are all part of this group, we all have a voice, we are all Tigers! It's going to be fun. We welcome you and thank you for being a part of the PTA to support the students and staff at Gorzycki Middle School.
Most Sincerely,
Angie Schuckle
